Leave No Trace Principles for Kids

Plan Ahead and Prepare:

Plan ahead and prepare, it helps to maintain safely and make the experience more enjoyable.

Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces:

Travel outdoors and move through natural areas while avoiding damage to the land, foliage, or waterways. By understanding the best practices to travel and camp on durable surfaces responsibly, we can minimize human impact on outdoor spaces.

Dispose of Waste in Proper Place

Lets face it humans create waste even while enjoying outdoor spaces. Leave No Trace encourages outdoor enthusiasts to consider the impacts they leave behind.

Leave What You Find:

The items we find in nature are part of a bigger ecosystem and leaving what we find in place helps to preserve that ecosystem. Also allow others the opportunity to discover the many wonders of nature by leaving rocks, plants, archaeological artifacts, and other objects of interest as you find them.

Minimize Campfire Impacts:

Some people would not think of camping without a campfire. Campfire building is also an essential skill for every camper. However a lack of fire safety and knowledge can be dangerous. Wildfires threaten our outdoor spaces and are primarily caused by humans. We can minimize campfire impacts by keeping a few things in mind when starting a fire and scouts are trained in these.

Respect the Wildlife:

You are just visiting, and remember you are in the natural habitat of many wild animals.  Negative human-wildlife interactions, aggressive animals, a decline in the ecosystem’s health, and relocated or euthanized animals,  all these impacts that can be avoided if you respect wildlife.

Be considerate of Others:

Maintain courtesy toward others. It helps everyone enjoys their outdoor experience. Excessive noise, uncontrolled pets, and damaged surroundings detract from the natural appeal of the outdoors. Being considerate of others ensures everyone can enjoy nature no matter how they interact with it.
