The Bobcat
The Cub Scout Oath, Law and Motto and Cub Scout Advancement Trail
All Cub Scouts from Lion to Arrow of Light complete the Bobcat Badge prior to working on their Advancements. It is the core for all Cub Scouts Ranks.
Bobcat is an introduction, a retraining and focus of the Cub Scout Program. A Bobcat represents inner strength and resilience in the face of adversity
To earn the Bobcat achievement the Cub Scout will reflect on the scout oath, law, and motto. Depending on their grade level the Cub Scout will add to the understanding of the oath and law.

CUB SCOUT SIGN,
The Cub Scout sign is done with your right hand. Hold your arm straight up. The two raised finders stand for the Scout Oath and the Scout law. They also look like the sharp ears of a wolf ready to listen to Akela! (Akela is a "good leader" such as your parent or guardian, your den leader or your teacher).
CUB SCOUT HANDSHAKE
When you shake hands with another Cub Scout, do this: HOLD out your right hand just as you always do to shake hands. But then put your first two fingers along the inside of the other boy’s wrist. This means that you help each other to remember and obey the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
CUB SCOUT MOTTO
A motto is a guiding principle and a rule for living. “Do Your Best” means trying your hardest, not just a little bit. Do your best all the time. Do your best in school and at home. Do you best when you play a game and help your team. Do your best as you work on your rank adventures!
CUB SCOUT SALUTE.
The Cub Scout salute is done with your right hand. Hold your first two fingers close together. Touch your fingertips to your cap. If you aren’t wearing a cap, touch your right eyebrow. You salute the flag to show respect to our country. Always use the Cub Scout salute when you're in your uniform, both indoors and outdoors. If you are not in uniform, you salute the flag by placing your right hand over your heart.
The Advancement Trail
On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses towards a badge of rank based on their grade. They need not have earned the previous rank in order to earn the next. Each of the ranks in Cub Scouting has its own requirements that are age appropriate, so earning a rank below a Cub Scout’s current grade is not permitted. As a Cub Scout advances through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities they have learned.
